Mission and ObjectivesThe Engineering Joint Council (EJC) is a consortium of student representatives from each of the engineering clubs and professional society chapters. The objective of the Engineering Joint Council is to facilitate, at minimum, the following three annual activities and to serve as the dean's student advisory council.
- Organize one outreach event for first-year students.
- Host and organize Engineering Week.
- Plan and host one social event.
- All EJC members must be enrolled in a College of Engineering undergraduate major or in the computer science major in the College of Letters & Science. Exceptions may be granted by either the EJC staff advisor or the associate dean of undergraduate studies.
- Each engineering club will nominate, at minimum, one club member to represent the club on the council. Two nominations from different class levels (upper-division & lower-division) are preferred.
- Each EJC member must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or be dismissed from the council; their club must then nominate a replacement. Dismissals decided by EJC staff advisor in consultation with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies.
- Membership approved by EJC staff advisor.
- Council members will serve for one academic with the option for re-nomination each following year.
- Nominations will begin at the end of winter quarter and become finalized by mid-May.
The associate dean of undergraduate studies in engineering and the EJC staff advisor will select, on an annual basis, the residing EJC director. The EJC director will serve as the ex-officio member of the ASUCD Student Affairs Commission. Selection criteria:
- enrolled as an engineering student (exceptions made by associate dean and/or EJC staff advisor)
- cumulative GPA of 2.5 and have been in good academic standing for three consecutive quarters
- must maintain this GPA throughout term as EJC director or be dismissed from the council
- must be a member or an officer of an engineering club or an EJC member
- the term shall last one full academic year beginning in September and ending mid-June, unless otherwise agreed on by director and staff advisor
- The EJC director will preside over each EJC meeting;
- The EJC director will attend the ASUCD Student Affairs Commission meetings on a monthly basis;
- The EJC director will ensure that EJC meets its annual obligations, to include quarterly meetings with the College's dean;
- The EJC director will meet weekly with the EJC staff advisor;
- The EJC director will ensure that EJC members are selected for the following positions:Treasurer, Fundraiser, Secretary, Public Relations Coordinator
- In addition to these 4 positions, the following Committee Chairs will be assigned by the director: Fall E-club Faire, Winter E-Week, & Spring Social. Optional: Leadership Awards and EJC Retreat.
- EJC members' conference attendance will be approved by EJC director and the EJC staff advisor.
- EJC will plan and implement its three core activities: Fall Club Faire (E-Faire), the National Engineering Week events (E-Week), and the Spring Social. In addition, EJC may add other projects such as the Spring Officer Awards.
- EJC will schedule quarterly meetings with the Dean of the College.
- EJC will act as a conduit between College Administration and the ASUCD Academic Affairs Commission.
- EJC will hold at minimum one meeting per quarter open to all engineering students, affiliated students, and interested corporate members and/or alumni. Additional meetings will be on an "as-needed" basis.
- EJC will raise funds for annual activities and conference attendance.
- The Dean's office will provide a minimum of $600 in annual funds to EJC each Fall Quarter.
- The Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies will assist in policy decisions when needed.
Any change or additions in bylaws must meet approval of associate dean of undergraduate studies and EJC staff advisor.
